PROVISION OF WI-FI HOTSPOTS TO REMOTE AND TRIBAL DOMINATED AREAS

As a part of an ambitious project towards Digital India initiative by Indian Railways and aiming to provide digital connectivity in rural, remote corners and Tribal dominated areas, free Wi-Fi service has been provided to small stations like Keonjhargarh, Paradeep, Tikiri and Bisam Cuttack Railway Stations by ECoR.

Recently Railway Board has approved the provision of Wi-Fi hotspots at 200 rural & remote stations through Universal Services Obligation Fund (USOF) and the work will be executed by Railtel. Similarly Malatipatpur, Sakhigopal, Birapurusottampur, Delang, Motori, Retang, Mancheswar, Barang, Gopalpur Balikuda Railway and other small stations under ECoR’s jurisdiction will be provided with free Wi-Fi service through USOF mode.
These stations will now gain the distinguished status of having high-speed internet facility in the country for its thousands of passengers who travel everyday by trains. Being a public service Wi-Fi facility not just provided to railway passengers but also to people from all sections of society who are frequenting Railway stations. 
Designed to offer users the best Internet experience, RailWire Wi-Fi will be available to any user who has a working mobile connection o­n a smart phone or o­n any laptop device. This is all a part of East Coast Railway’s continuing endeavours to provide more and better comforts to its esteemed passengers.
General Manager, East Coast Railway Shri Umesh Singh reviewed the progress of Wi-Fi services and advised all concerned officials to expedite the work of Wi-Fi services connection in small stations so that rural and tribal people can also be benefitted with array of o­nline services.
It may be mentioned that Wi-Fi services has already been provided at Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Berhampur, Jajpur Keonjhar Road, Bhadrak, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagram, Rayagada, Srikakulam, Palasa and Sambalpur Railway Stations over East Coast railway Jurisdiction.
