Shri Suresh Prabhu, Hon. Minister for Railways met the General Managers of Central and Western Railway on 21.11.2014.
He directed that a time bound plan should be made to address the concerns of the commuters of Mumbai Suburban system.
He has also directed the Railway Board to expedite the process of DC to AC conversion between Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Mumbai to Thane and provide appropriate technical inputs to strengthen Mumbai Suburban system
He instructed that Central Railway takes up maintainence work on war footing to ensure that trains run on maximum permissible speed and punctuality is maintained.
Central Railway has identified that the section between Thane to Kalyan is a critical section which is hampering running of trains at maximum permissible speed. Kalyan Yard is the most critical yard as nearly 900 either trains cross the yard daily towards Karjat and Kasara or get terminated in the yard..
Since 1st of November, strengthening of assets has been given special attention between Thane-Kalyan section and at Kalyan yard. All the Sunday mega blocks have been availed on fast corridor in this section only. Apart from this short duration blocks on Saturday and special night blocks have been granted for track renewal works. Track Relaying Trains and Ballast Cleaning Machines are regularly working in this section. Slow Corridor has also been attended with Ballast Cleaning Machines and Track Relaying Trains
About 300 Permanent Way staff was diverted from other divisions of Central Railway for about a fortnight to attend arrears of track maintainence. About 200 contract labour and 100 departmental tracks maintainers are working daily to replace track components like switch, crossing, sleepers, fittings, etc. The temporary speed restrictions are being reviewed on a daily basis and the situation is likely to normalise by 30.11.2014
