Secunderabad Station Gets the Distinction of Being the First Major Station on Indian Railways to have Escalators on all of its 10 Platforms and Lifts on Platforms at Both the Main Entrances |

With the recent commissioning of the 7th Escalator on Platform No. 4&5 and of two Lifts- one each on Platform No.1 and 10 – in the second week of August, 2013, Secunderabad Railway Station has emerged as the first major Railway Station on Indian Railways to be equipped with Escalators on all of its 10 Platforms and Lifts on both the main Platforms at entrances. South Central Railway has spent Rs. 6.6 Cr., which include the cost of Escalators, Civil Engineering works and Electrical Power supply arrangements etc., towards setting up of seven Escalators at Secunderabad. With these arrangements, the facility of Escalator is made available on all the 10 Platforms at Secunderabad Station.
In addition to the seven Escalators, two Lifts – one each on Platform No. 1 and 10, which are situated on the two main entrances / exits of the Station, have also been installed and commissioned at a cost of Rs. 98 Lakh in the second week of August, 2013.
Each of the Lifts is capable to carry 20 persons at a time. The rated carrying capacity of each of the Escalators is 180 persons per minute. It is estimated that around 43,000 passengers on an average per day are using these Escalators.
These Escalators and Lifts facilitate easy and quick movement of passengers, especially the elderly, sick, and physically challenged persons etc., from one platform to other. With seven Escalators and two Lifts, Secunderabad Station wears a modern look and offers enhanced passenger comfort.
